Sea The Stars

And so it was. In witnessing a page in history being written by the John Oxx star stablemate of a similar name, we were also witnessing his final appearance on the race course competitively.
Barring any George Washington style comeback, (ill fated as it was), another great flat horse has been lost to the money making world of stud.

To that end we can not blame the owners and connections who ultimately can realise tenfold plus what they could in prize money from racing their pride and joy. Young Choi is not a silly young man, indeed, with revenue gained through stud the dream of finding another sea the Stars is far more realistic with a bigger bank opening bigger avenues of choice. It is to the detriment of the sport per say, and the reason why as a sporting spectacle it cannot compete with its cousin National Hunt. Over the Winter and spring we get to see each years greats appear year after year to renew rivalries with old foes and up and coming potential. This is something flat racing can never compete with.

Never will flat racing have a Best Mate, a Dessie, a Kauto Star. Never will we see the likes of repeat winning performances year after year that we have witnessed even recently with Inglis Drever, Baracouda, or Hardy Eustace and Istabraq in the Champion Hurdle.

Once again, financially, it's understandable, from a purist view however it's a shame.

Roll on the winter!!

WHAT A DAY!!!

Firstly todays members e-mail.

we didnt play on tuesday so got started yesterday with one placed an an unplaced runner, but came back into form today with a nice 7/1 return. Advised at 14 on betfair and returnign at 11 on betfair Sp which is always the advice. This week will again be a winning one.

here is todays e-mail,

Anyone remember this from last Wednesdays mail?

I was also advised that Cathy Gannon will be getting her holiday money this week and will have a winner. It has been suggested that she may take over the ride from Steve Drowne on Palace Moon this week but we'll see what happens there. In the 2.30 at Warwick tomorrow she rides for Mick Channon on LOFTHOUSE.

Well, i'm not sure if we've done alright or not. Of course we collected with Palace moon on Saturday, but it looks like the Gannon info was a week early as she scored with a 33/1 shot for Channon at Lingfield this Wednesday. Mr B has been quiet on the phone tonight, i shall speak in the morning and see why we didnt know.

Todays selections and a cracking price for me for the first one. I honestly think this one is out of line, i was expecting to see maybe 7.4-8 maybe....

4.25 Salisbury - TROPICAL PARADISE 1 point win at around 14 on Betfair

From a bad draw at Ascot last time, he was headed in the final furlong and just couldn’t get back, the speed rating from that race is better than anything I have for the remainder and it looks a solid piece of form. Enact is the one we are taking on whilst Romany Princess could be the one to make up the places. I was ummin and ahhing about this race until i saw the price for the Winkworth runner, and this is seriously underestimated at a current 14 on Betfair. Maybe one for EW players if not confident of the win, but the officialadvice and for recording purposes is win only.

4.15 Redcar - NEVA A MULL MOMENT Betfair Sp

This is an interesting race and being a maiden not one i would usually look at taking on. However i am interesting in the Nichols runner here with Adrian on board. Whilst i am happy to quickly omit Miss Frangipan from calculations for this race, Equnine i feel needs to be taken more seriously as a threat but could be at the wrong trip. The price is see now available for the Nichols runner looks good value against a couple of his most recent runs when maybe a tad unlucky in what he has come up against. He's not been beaten far on his last two and from my figures has been posting improvement each time. He's a good draw in three to avoid any trouble and is fancied

Lovely Weekend Double!

After a quiet week with some poor racing midweek. Saturday was ime to get back down to business, and business we did, Getting an early 5/1 on Betfair for Palace Moon, the day was set up nicely when it scored. Topped off with another nice priced winner later in the day at Cartmel

Here's todays mail

Well, from a quiet week, Saturday is crazy. I do several sweeps of the cards looking for specifics to create a shortlist to further investigate and form read to find the daily selections. After the initial sweeps today there were 14 on the shortlist. This pretty much means another 7 hours form reading at least. Having gone through them all again, it was 5am by the time i got the list down to eight. Finally i have narrowed it down to the strongest of the bunch and hopefully we will get some nice Saturday return with this lot. Saturdays have been pretty good for me over the summer. I've missed my Sleep for last nighyt now and it would be easy to get my head down, but i think i shall work through it and have an early night tonight. instead, i am going to take all the weekends and saturdays and analyse the results over the summer. See if there are any further trends within the selections and results we can exploit next year.

Anyway, heres todays final pair

3.25 Newmarket - PALACE MOON
Upped to 7f last time out to take on the hungerford Stakes at Newbury, after pulling hard (as he is likened to do early on) he was one paced in the final furlong. this drop back to 6 on this undulating course make him interesting. He has generally run only on flat tacks but showed up well enough on his only other outing here when third in a conditions race here last back end.
Of course We were on TAMAGIN last time out and it is likely that he will lead out. Only just cought last time this is tougher. my bet is on the Morrison hot shot.

5.00 Cartmel - WENSLYDALE WEB
This Todhunter inmate return to Cartmel after giving her best career performance here on her penultimate outing. That run came in simialr consditions to tdays event when headed and beaten a nose on the line when clear of the remainder of the field. Last time at Bangor she was facing a much tougher field of runners and did well enough, but now back in the same level of company as the previous Cartmel run, she has a good chance again. I would be looking for around 7 on Betfair. Look out for both Major Title and Obara D'avril in the race. they rate as the biggest dangers to the selection.

4 winners from 7 Races - Good prices too!

Nothing doing on MOB-Horseracing-Tips.com today, which ended up frustrating me a tad. The racing wasn't great today and my previews for http://www.valuechecker.co.uk/ were for Kempton which didn't look the greatest card in history. However the racing doesn't have to be the best to find a winner, they come in all grades of racing.

Highlighted in the previews today were 4 winners from the 7 races including prices of 12/1, 11/2, 10/3 and 5/4

Around 19 points profit to industry Sp and once again Betfair Sp out performs and returns around 23.5

Here are todays previews in full. These can be found daily at http://www.valuechecker.co.uk/ and now that spotlight needs paying for on Racing Post, these previews come free of charge!!!

Kempton 24th August

2.10

A nursery to get proceedings underway at Kempton this afternoon on the first day of racing with no evening meeting since way back. It’s the first sign of Winter!!!
Only one of these has experience of this course, the only right handed polytrack in the country. Candyfloss Girl ran here last time out when finishing third when not having the speed to continue through furlong six. Positive move in dropping back to 5 today and with a good chance.
Firetrap last ran a week later than Candyfloss Girl but found himself behind the same horse for third place in Ginger Grey, therefore for todays contest preference will go to the former, she is drawn better and has the experience of going this way round on sand.
Drawn wider still is Flapjack from the yard of Richard Hannon with Ryan Moore on board that combination alone will garner support but this doesn’t look any easier than previous races he has been unable to get involved in.

SELECTION: CANDYFLOSS GIRL

2.40

Hannon and Moore team up with Elusive Trader for this maiden. Staying on over 5f last time out here on this track he managed second place, so the extra furlong will most likely be in his favour as is the wide 10 stall draw.
Gold Crusher is the only other in the line up with any meaningful form in the book but not form to the same level as the likely favourite, big improvement will be required to get close to the Hannon horse. More likely will be competition from one of the unraced contingent, market signs will help us see whats expected of this lot, whilst pre market watching respect has to be given to Godolphin and their entry of Barlaman. The only problem with runner from this yard is after the last 10 days or so with the outfit coming into form, everything from them seem to be priced very cautiously.
Marcus Tregonning doesn’t have a bad record on this track and his Avenuesnalleyways is double figure odds and maybe worth some each way interest.

SELECTION: ELUSIVE TRADER

3.10

A nursery and a maiden are followed by another maiden!!! It’s a tricky first half of the card for punters as we attempt to unearth the winner here.
Godolphin, again are represented, this time by Navy List who ran second last time out to Kavak at Lingfield . Returning 10/1 that day we wont be seeing the same sort of price today although his chances don’t look all that much greater.
Togiak from the stable of Ed Dunlop was fourth in a race at Newmarket that may not be too bad. Staying on fourth over seven furlongs that day this mile trip will suit
Barry Hills has a newcomer here in Sharaayeen Layers are already being cautious on Betfair and I’m sure the high street will follow, the yard have has a good year with youngsters and the market is speaking in favour of this one. In the absence of strong form for the remainder of the field the vote goes to the debutant.

SELECTION: SHARAAYEEN

3.40

Godolphin are fairly riding Kempton today and have yet another short priced favourite ready to go in this. Ashram came within a neck at Newbury of picking up a nice price behind THE CHEKA, that was a good race but since has found listed company at Goodwood a tad too hot. This is more his level and mush respect has to be given. The short price looks justified, but there could be something else at better value.
Brief Encounter has some excellent form on the turf including a class 2 handicap win on his penultimate outing and not disgraced last time out in the same listed event as Ashram when beating his rival who was hampered 2 out. The placings there may have been different without that interference, but the price of this one today looks generous.
Vitznau is pretty exposed now but is one that has winning course form in the book. That was way over a year ago now however, and this Hannon horse has not impressed this season, although he has been played in some competitive racing. Interesting back here but likely to find one of the above in front at the line,

SELECTION: BRIEF ENCOUNTER

4.10

Bagber looks to be the one to court favouritism in the market today after some improving performances this term and a third here over this course last time out. That was a better race than this and although he lost his place late on, he may not need to be as good as that this time round.
Pyrus Time has not been out of the places since his second run this year, he has had eight races since then finishing third four times including the last twice and second the remainder. Looking at each and every race he has run in, he has never had his head in front. I fear this chap is not a leader and does not like his head in front, it makes him extremely opposable and a sure lay for me.
That really eliminates the competition for the Dunlop runner. Amanda Perret has one that might give him a race however in, Attainable. Only raced twice to date the last one coming here on the polytrack last September. Difficult to asses how fit she will be for this and for that reason we will be sticking with the likely favourite.

SELECTION: BAGBER

4.40

Lethal Glaze was a notebook horse of mine to follow since the 14th August 2008. Well I usually look for three runs and then drop them, but this one has kept on winning and looks a likely candidate once again for this today. Richard Hannons gelding has improved with each and every run since that note taking day, and today makes his first appearance on the artificial surface here. That would be my main concern as to how he will react to it but being generally at the front of things he wont get too much kickback.
Bawadi had no problems with the surface here last month when making his race course debut for Godolphin with Frankie on board, winning with what looked like ease over 10 furlongs, certainly we can expect more on only his second outing and he is very much respected.
Hughie Morrison, will be considering himself unlucky he has not had more return from State Banquet this term. He been running in some good races this term most latterly a class 2 handicap at Goodwood in which he found only one too good for the big prize. Has a shout today of the Godolphin runner isn't what is expected but my preference at the price is with Hannon

SELECTION: LETHAL GLAZE

5.10

This is a fair sized field of fourteen to go over seven furlongs here and the wide draw will be of sure help in finding the shortest route to the finish.
That will be a shame for Ian Williams Rockson who has the best looking form column but finds himself out in stall 2. He will be doing more than well to be competing in the finish from there.
Tom Dascombe has a decent enough strike rate at this course and his Queens Flight does get that desired high draw near the rail, but the form of this one, although in better company doesn’t inspire confidence and somewhere along the line there should be something better in here.
Johnnie Skull maybe one worth taking a chance on. Some abject performances have been interspersed with some half decent opportunities, and with a better ride, may have done better at Brighton last time out. Yet to win a race of course, this would represent his best chance to date. Tom Queally may be able to ride a double figures odds winner here.

SELECTION:
JOHNNIE SKULL
